Kentucky: Officer struck by car during Louisville pursuit

A Louisville Metro Police officer was injured during a police pursuit Thursday afternoon that started in the Wyandotte/Oakdale neighborhood and ended on Dixie Highway in Shively. Fourth Division officers attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle around 11:30 a.m. on Taylor Boulevard near Beecher Street, said Louisville Metro Police spokesman Dwight Mitchell. The 2015 Chrysler 200 was later confirmed stolen out of Indiana.

As the officers conducted the stop, the driver of the Chrysler put the car in gear and fled, striking one of the officers in the knee, Mitchell said. The officer was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital with minor injuries. A chase ensued, with the driver leading authorities on the Watterson Expressway, the Shawnee Expressway, and several side streets before it ended near Matheis Lane and Dixie Highway in Shively. The male driver and a female passenger were taken into custody.

Both occupants of the car were transported to University of Louisville hospital with minor injuries. Charges are pending and the investigation is considered ongoing.
