Kentucky: Injury Collision Where Tractor Trailer Struck Fire Rescue Truck and Firemen on I-65
The Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to an injury collision today at approx. 6:28 am on Interstate 65 near the 38 mile marker southbound where a tractor trailer truck struck a Smiths Grove Fire Department rescue truck and two firemen.
The preliminary investigation indicated that the Smiths Grove Fire Department had responded to the area of the 38 mile marker southbound on I-65 in reference to multiple collisions in the area due to the icy road conditions. Kumar Amandeep (33) of West Hill, CA was operating a 2017 Freightliner tractor trailer and was traveling southbound when he lost control of his semi and struck a 2006 Kenworth Fire Rescue truck that was on the shoulder of the roadway with their emergency equipment activated. Amandeep's semi truck then separated from the trailer and overturned, striking Chief Kenneth Priddy and Assistant Chief Steven Wilson with the Smiths Grove Fire Department.
Asst. Chief Steven Wilson was transported to the Medical Center in Bowling Green by the Medical Center EMS for non-life threatening injuries. Chief Priddy and Mr. Amandeep were not injured in the collision.
The investigation is still ongoing and being led by Trooper First Class Brett Coomes. He was assisted on the scene by Troopers Timmy Jewell and Kevin Mayfield, Smiths Grove Fire Department, and the Medical Center EMS. No other details are available for release at this time.
