Georgia: Road Worker Struck and Killed While Flagging Traffic
Cobb County police are investigating a fatal traffic accident after a member of a tree-trimming crew was struck by a vehicle in Marietta. The incident happened Monday December 12 at the intersection of Powers Road at Connemara Drive.
Spencer Young, 60, of Lawrenceville had three traffic cones in front of him while he was flagging motorists through in the eastbound lane of Powers Road. Soon, a gray 2014 Chevrolet Malibu approached the scene, according to a release from Cobb County police.
When Young "raised his hand in an attempt to signal the oncoming Chevrolet to stop" the car kept going, striking him with the vehicle's left side, Cobb police said in the news release.
Cobb County police identified the driver as 82-year-old Allen Martin. It is unknown why Martin didn't stop.
Young was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he died.
