California: Officers Injured When Patrol Car is Struck
On December 18th, 2016 at approximately 2:38 a.m., two California Highway Patrol Officers stopped on the right shoulder of Interstate 10 near Interstate 215 to check on the well-being of a stranded motorist. The officer who was driving activated the patrol vehicles emergency lights as a safety precaution. As the officers were exiting the patrol car, a 2006 International box truck driven by Valeriano Sequina Jr. (20, Pomona),veered to the right and struck the patrol cars left side. One of the officers was outside of the patrol vehicle when it was struck and was struck by debris. The officer driving was still in the patrol vehicle. Sequina stopped on the right shoulder after the collision.
Emergency personnel arrived on scene and both officers were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. This collision is still under investigation. Alcohol/drugs are not suspected to be factors in the collision.
