Australia: Wyoming: Man charged after officer struck by car

A man has been charged after a police officer was struck by a car following a pursuit on the Central Coast earlier this week. About 12.30pm on Monday (31 October 2016), an officer from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command became involved in a pursuit with a vehicle in Wyoming.

The vehicle entered Japonica Drive, where the officer got out of his vehicle and was struck by the car, which then drove from the scene. The male senior constable suffered a head laceration and a knee injury. He was taken to Gosford Hospital in a stable condition and was released later that day.

Investigations into the incident began immediately, with officers searching for a grey Mitsubishi Magna and appealing to the public for information. About 9.30am today (Thursday 3 November2016), detectives from Brisbane Water Local Area Command attended a home in Gorokan and arrested an 18-year-old man.

He was taken to Wyong Police Station where he was charged - with police pursuit – not stop- drive dangerously, - use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, - assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm,

  • drive motor vehicle while licence suspended

  • drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous,

  • fail to stop and assist after impact cause injury

  • class A vehicle displaying misleading number plate

  • damage property by fire less than $2000

He appeared in court today where he was refused bail. He will reappear at Wyong Local Court on Monday 19 December 2016.
