Virginia: Construction flagger struck by vehicle on Barracks Road
A construction flagger was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after he was hit by a vehicle, according to Albemarle County police.
Just after 10 a.m., a work crew was controlling traffic while conducting utility work on Barracks Road at Old Garth Road. As westbound traffic was stopped, a vehicle traveling westbound failed to stop and veered off to the right and struck the construction flagger, according to Sgt. David Wallace.
The flagger is a 61-year-old man from Esmont. The vehicle, a pickup truck, was occupied by an 18-year-old Charlottesville woman who was not injured during the incident.
Wallace said the flagger was rushed to the University of Virginia Medical Center with critical injuries. As of Friday afternoon, county police reported the man’s injuries were still listed as critical.
