New Jersey: Sheriff's officer struck, seriously injured in Totowa
A Passaic County Sheriff's Officer was hit by a vehicle while working a construction detail, Sheriff Richard Berdnik said.The sergeant, who was identified, was hit around 7:11 p.m. at Totowa Road and Riverview Drive. He was rushed to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Paterson, where he is being treated for serious injuries. He is in stable condition, Berdnik said. The driver remained at the scene, authorities said. The incident was under investigation Wednesday night and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office as notified, Berdnik also said. No other information was released Wednesday night.
"I want to commend the Woodland Park Police lieutenant who witnessed the incident and worked quickly to make sure that the sergeant received nearly immediate medical attention. I also want to thank St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center for quickly activating their Trauma Response Unit," Berdnik also said.
