New Jersey: Newark police officer injured after being struck by car
A Newark police officer was struck by a pickup truck Sunday morning near Market and Read streets in the North Ironbound section of Newark, police said. Around 8 a.m., the officer was getting his things from his parked car when a pickup truck collided with him and his vehicle, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose. The impact caused the officer to be thrown toward his vehicle.
The driver of the pickup stopped briefly before ignoring the officer’s command to stop and pull over, Ambrose said. The pickup then drove east on Market Street.
The officer, who is 46, was injured and taken to the hospital in stable condition. He has been on the force for 15 years, Ambrose said.
