Massachusetts: Massachusetts Trooper Struck by Motorcyclist
A state trooper working a traffic detail outside Gillette Stadium at the conclusion of Sunday's 16-0 Patriots' loss to the Buffalo Bills suffered potentially serious injuries when he was struck on Route 1 in Foxboro by a motorcycle that was running from the cops, police said.
State police spokesman David Procopio said the trooper was conscious during his transport to Boston Medical Center, but called his injuries "potentially serious." The collision occurred at parking lot P8, south of Gillette, shortly before 4:30 p.m., he said.
Troopers were trying to stop Jose Perez-Rodriguez, 25, of Everett, who was driving his 2009 Ducati against traffic in an effort to get away, going south in a northbound lane, when he struck the trooper, Procopio said. He did not say why troopers were initially trying to stop the biker.
Perez-Rodriguez was in state police custody at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center "and is expected to face charges," Procopio said. "The severity of his injuries are not known at this time," Procopio said of the motorcyclist, "and the specific charges are subject to an ongoing investigation."
