Louisiana: State Police trooper almost struck by alleged drunk driver on Bonnet Carre Spillway
A Louisiana State Police trooper was nearly struck by an allegedly impaired driver early Sunday on the Bonnet Carre Spillway bridge, officials said. Around 4 a.m., the trooper was investigating a single-vehicle crash on the bridge on Interstate 10 westbound in St. Charles Parish, State Police said. He had parked his unit in the left lane with the emergency lights activated.
After stepping out of the vehicle to investigate the crash, the trooper saw a vehicle driving toward his location at a high rate of speed, State Police said. The trooper managed to run away from the vehicle before it was hit from behind by a Nissan Altima, driven by Terrell Guillory, 30.
Guillory suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital. After he was released, he was arrested on charges of second-offense DWI and reckless operation, State Police said.
The trooper was not injured in the incident.
