Florida: Texting driver hits, injures Daytona officers

Two police officers investigating a crash were injured when a pickup struck one of the parked patrol cars, according to a Daytona Beach police report.Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood said the truck's driver, Noah Saunier, 21, admitted to officers he'd been distracted by texting. The first wreck occurred about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at the top of the Seabreeze Bridge, according to the report. A westbound 2008 Ford truck failed to yield to the emergency lights and slammed into the back of Officer William Grant's patrol car, according to the report.

The impact caused Grant's car to hit Officer Marvin Boone's car, which then struck Boone on his left side, according to the report. Grant, who'd been sitting in his car when it was hit, suffered a serious cut to his forehead, and Boone suffered a minor injury to his left side, according to the report.

The Florida Highway Patrol took over the investigation, according to the report.
