Florida: FDOT employee struck by vehicle near Pierson
An employee with the Florida Department of Transportation checking on a tree-trimming crew on State Road 40 near Pierson on Tuesday was struck by a vehicle, Florida Highway Patrol investigators said.
Ronda Daniell, 50, of Williston is in serious but stable condition at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where she was taken by helicopter, said Sgt. Kim Montes, FHP spokeswoman. The crash occurred just west of County Road 3 in Barberville about 12:10 p.m.
Daniell had stopped to check on a tree crew working on the side of the road. She parked on the east shoulder of the road and crossed to talk to the workers. As she walked back to her vehicle, she stepped out into the path of westbound traffic and was struck, Montes said.
The driver of the vehicle, James Moore, 75, of Atlantic Beach, could not stop in time. He was not injured, Montes said. The crash remains under investigation but troopers said they do not expect to file charges in the case.
