California: Sacramento County Deputy Struck By Vehicle After Responding To Call
A deputy was accidentally struck by a vehicle in south Sacramento Thursday night, authorities say. The scene is near Gerber Road and Wilbur Way.
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, the deputy was responding to a domestic violence call in the area. After a chase on foot, a suspect was taken into custody. As the deputy was taking the suspect back to the patrol car, a passing motorist struck the deputy.
The deputy’s wounds are said to be not life-threatening, a sheriff’s spokesperson said. The deputy, only identified as an 18-year veteran of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, has been transported to the hospital. The suspect who was in the custody of the deputy was also taken to the hospital after being tased.
Authorities say the driver, identified as a 53-year-old man, who struck the deputy stayed at the scene. California Highway Patrol is helping in the investigation.
