Ohio: Video shows trooper struck by car during traffic stop
Earlier this month, the State Highway Patrol posted a video on its Facebook page of a trooper being struck by a car. If you watch it, and still don't watch out for emergency vehicles, there might be something wrong with you.
The video shows a sergeant with the Chardon post on a traffic stop on Route 322 near Chardon. As he talks to the driver, a vehicle strikes him and the car. The driver of the stopped car crawled out the window after the crash to try to help the trooper.
Drivers are required to move to another lane when approaching any vehicle with flashing or rotating lights on the roadside. If that's not possible, drivers need to slow down and be cautious while passing the stopped vehicle. The wreck looks bad, but the trooper's injuries were not life-threatening. Troopers say they have cited more than 10,000 motorists for failing to move over for emergency vehicles between 2011 and 2015.
