Maryland: • Aberdeen officer injured while investigating accident
An Aberdeen police officer was injured when a vehicle struck him as he investigated another accident Wednesday night in Harford County. Police said the officer was struck at about 10:48 p.m. in the 700 block of West Bel Air Avenue. The officer had blocked the eastbound lane of West Bel Air Avenue with his patrol vehicle, lights activated, and was walking wearing a reflective safety vest as he investigated the first accident, police said. A vehicle traveling southbound on Beards Hill Road turned left onto West Bel Air Avenue where they struck the officer. The driver stopped at the point of impact, police said. The injured officer was flown to Shock Trauma with injuries to his head and lower body. Police said he was released from the hospital at 4 a.m.
Aberdeen police spokesman Sgt. Will Reiber said the officer is feeling sore, but is looking forward to getting back to work. The Harford Co. Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. Police said no arrests have made and the case remains under investigation.
