Rhode Island: Police officer struck while directing traffic in Warwick
A Warwick Police officer was sent to the hospital with minor injuries Sunday night after he was struck by a vehicle while directing traffic. Police tell NBC 10 News the patrolman was directing traffic during a power outage in the area of Warwick Ave and Sandy Lane when he was struck.
The driver - identified as Thomas Horne, 64, of Warwick was traveling east on Sandy Lane and made a left turn into oncoming traffic on Warwick Ave when he hit the patrolman, according to police. Horne appeared to show signs of intoxication but refused to submit to a chemical test.
The officer was released from Rhode Island Hospital early Monday morning.
