Michigan: State Police trooper hospitalized after cruiser struck by vehicle
A Michigan State Police trooper was seriously injured in a crash early today on eastbound I-696 near the Lodge Freeway in Southfield after he was struck by a large construction van while sitting inside his SUV patrol vehicle.
Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said the crash occurred about 7 a.m. after troopers responded to a vehicle in a ditch on eastbound I-696 right near the Lodge Freeway. "The trooper pulled over to the right shoulder and was struck by a large construction state van hauling a piece of equipment," Shaw said.
The unidentified trooper was transported to Providence Hospital with facial injuries, back pain and head trauma, Shaw said, but his injuries appear to be non-life threatening.
