Indiana: IMPD officer struck by car while investigating fender bender
An IMPD officer was hit by a car during an investigation into a fender bender on the northeast side Saturday night. Police say it happened just before 7 p.m. at the intersection of East 38th Street and North Franklin Road.
The officer was not seriously injured, according to officials. Police say they were investigating a multi-car accident. The officers had traffic blocked while they were cleaning up, but one driver got impatient and tried to go around the road block.
During this time officer say they tried to stop the driver, but got a whiff of marijuana coming from the car.Aaron Carr was arrested on charges of Criminal Recklessness, Resisting Law Enforcement and OWI.
Officers asked the driver of the Jeep, 27-year-old Aaron Carr, to pull over, but he didn’t comply with the officers’ commands. Instead, Carr put his Jeep in reverse and started fleeing backwards. IMPD says he hit an officer in the arm and torso. This is when an officer fired one shot at the Jeep. Carr continued driving in reverse until he hit a median and crashed in the 7700 block of E. 38th Street.
