Michigan: Two Kalamazoo officers injured after being hit by drunk driver
Two Kalamazoo Public Safety officers were injured after being hit by a vehicle Sunday morning. Officers were responding to a car accident around 3 a.m. in the 600 block of South Howard Street.
Due to icy roads, there were two more crashes at the same location while the officers were on scene. The officers were outside their patrol car when the third crash happened and were hit by those vehicles.
Both officers were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. The first officer received a head injury and is in stable condition. The second officer received injuries to his back, but was treated and released later that morning.
Police say the 22-year-old driver of the vehicle who hit the officers was drunk. He was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and driving on an expired license.
