Georgia: Hit-and-run driver injures police officer
A Clayton County police officer is recovering in an Atlanta hospital after a driver struck him and fled the scene. It happened at about 11:45 p.m. Thursday while the officer was assisting a colleague who was working an accident. The officer was trying to block off a lane of traffic on I-75 near Charles W. Grant Parkway.
It is unclear if the officer was inside or outside of his patrol car when he was struck. The officer, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that struck the officer did not stop and continued on toward downtown Atlanta. Police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run. A make and model of the suspect's vehicle is not known at this time.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
