Colorado Sheriff’s Deputy Struck By Hit-and-Run Driver
Deputy Sheila Kirin, 35, was walking to a multi-car pileup on I-70 near the Chief Hosa exit when a gold hatchback struck her and kept going.
Deputy Kirin, a four-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a broken wrist.
Despite the severity of what happened to her, Deputy Kirin could only think about the safety of others.
“My first thought was making sure bystanders and drivers stayed in their car. I wasn’t concerned about me. It hadn’t really sunk in yet, the reality of me being struck by a car,” she said this morning.
“I feel bad that I snapped at a guy, but I wanted him to stay in his truck so no one else got hit.”
Deputy Kirin said she is incredibly grateful for all of the support she has received.
“I’m really thankful for all the bystanders,” she said. “They were really wonderful and kept asking if I was OK. The guy in the truck was super concerned and super sweet.”
