Colorado: Jefferson County deputy injured when struck by Jeep
A suspect driving a Jeep struck and injured a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy as the deputy struggled with another vehicle-theft suspect, Mark Techmeyer, sheriff's spokesman said Sunday.
The incident began at about 10:40 p.m. Saturday, when deputies were dispatched to the 8800 block of S. Kline St., on a report that cars were being broken into. The caller said the two suspects were in a Jeep Wrangler.
"We go looking for the the Jeep and we don't find it," said Techmeyer. About one hour later, a sheriff's deputy spotted the Jeep, which was traveling with a Volkswagen that was reported stolen in Jefferson County.
The two vehicles were driving next to each other and "weaving toward each other," Techmeyer said.
At Kipling Parkway and Remington Street, the Jeep made a U-turn and left the area.
Simlutaneously, the VW rear-ended a patrol car driven by one of the deputies.
Both deputies left their cars and struggled with the VW driver.
"They're struggling with him, and the Jeep reappears and drives across the median and strikes the" deputy, Techmeyer said.
The juvenile who was tussling with the deputies ran to the Jeep and jumped in.
The deputy had minor injuries.
The Jeep then drove into Denver, where it rammed a Denver police car.
Police found the unoccupied Jeep in the 800 block of S. Eaton Street in Lakewood.
The juvenile who was driving the stolen VW was apprehended by Lakewood police.
The second suspect remains at large.
