South Carolina: Greenville County deputy struck by truck
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday continued the search for a suspect who struck a deputy with a truck in Pelzer, Lt. Ty Miller said. A deputy on patrol saw someone trying to break into a propane tank case about 3:45 a.m Tuesday at Dollar General, 9538 Augusta Road. When the deputy approached, the suspect ran to a nearby dark-colored truck and drove off, hitting the deputy, Miller said. The deputy fired at the fleeing suspect in response, authorities said.
"It is unknown if the truck was hit or the suspect was hit," Miller said. The deputy was taken to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Miller said. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating at the request of the Sheriff's Office. This is the first officer-involved shooting involving a Greenville County deputy this year and the seventh in South Carolina, SLED said.
There was no body camera video of the incident, SLED said.
The Sheriff's Office released a surveillance video image from the scene and is asking for assistance from the public to identify the truck or individual.
Anyone with information about the truck or individual is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office at 271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
