Maryland: • MdTA police officer struck by car on Route 50
A Maryland Transportation Authority police officer was struck Tuesday evening on U.S. Route 50 in Anne Arundel County. Authorities said an officer was struck on Route 50 near Whitehall Road and was taken to Shock Trauma.
Police said the officer was on the side of the highway at 6:15 p.m. when another car struck his vehicle. The officer had pulled over to the shoulder of the road to investigate a report of pedestrians on the highway, police said.
The Maryland Transportation Authority, in a tweet, said one of its police officers was involved in a crash and that the officer's injuries appear to be non-life-threatening.
The officer's name was not released.
