Illinois: Moline officer struck by car during theft investigation
Two people are in jail after one person tried to flee in a vehicle and struck a Moline police officer. Officers at SouthPark Mall were conducting a retail theft investigation Thursday about 4:30 p.m. when an uniformed officer ordered two suspects to stop outside the mall, according to a news release from the Moline Police Department.
A foot chase ensued. Detectives, who were in the area, joined officers who caught a male suspect. The female suspect was able to run to her vehicle and lock the doors.
She then accelerated her car and struck a detective, throwing him on top of the vehicle's hood. With the detective still on the hood, the vehicle lurched forward several times, attempting to dislodge the detective from the vehicle before finally succeeding.
