Texas: Driver who struck Vidor officer will not be charged
A Vidor police officer who was directing traffic at an intersection near Vidor Middle School was hospitalized after he was struck by a vehicle.
According to Vidor Police Department Chief Dave Shows, the officer has since been released. He is sore and bruised, but has no broken bones. He will be off work for a few days.
The accident happened around 9 p.m. near the 2500 block of Highway 12. An officer on the scene told 12News a traffic light was out and police were called to help direct traffic.
Although a witness told 12News it appeared the vehicle was speeding at the time, but Chief Shows said the driver had slowed down and did everything possible to drive safely for the road condition. Chief shows said the driver simply did not see the officer.
The name of the officer has not been released.
