Missouri: Suspect in jail after SPD officer hit by car, dragged along Division
One person is behind bars after Springfield police say he hit an officer with his truck and dragged him down Division Street. It happened Saturday night around 8:30. The officer is expected to be okay but he is still in the hospital.
The driver of the truck was arrested several hours later. Police say the assault happened at Casey’s convenience store at the corner of Glenstone and Division. The person hit the officer with a truck, and the officer's leg got caught in the wheel well. He was dragged 150 yards down the street heading west on Division.
The driver took off, and police found that truck a few miles away in the back yard of a home on N. Rogers Avenue. The truck’s window was shattered. One of the businesses on the corner at Division and Glenstone is Family Video. William Woodruff is the manager, and says he had just left work, and called his employees to make sure they were okay.
"They're fearful for their lives and things like that. And it's just sad that one person's stupidity can have effect on that many people in the community." The identity of the man arrested has not yet been released. We are told he has not been formally charged yet.The officer involved in this incident has moderate injuries but is expected to recover. We’re told he’s anxious to get back to work
