Indiana: Semi crashes into Indiana State Police car, two Troopers sent to hospital
A semi who failed to move over for an Indiana State Police squad car directing traffic sent the two injured Troopers to the hospital. Around 9:10 a.m., State Troopers were assisting the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Department with a semi versus car crash on I-69 southbound near the 17 mile marker.
Two State Troopers were in their 2011 Dodge Charge squad car parked in the passing lane diverting traffic into the driving lane. Their red and blue lights were on, and southbound traffic had been moving over to driving lane without any problems, when a semi failed to move over and crashed into the patrol car.
Driver Gary Pride, 67, of Otwell, crashed into the patrol car and pushed it across both lanes into the guardrail on the west side of I-69.
Then, the semi drove into the driving lane, hitting a 2013 Volvo, driven by JoAnna Cochren, 45, of Petersburg.
The semi then struck the guardrail and concrete bridge wall on the west side before rolling onto its driver's side and partially onto the Volvo.
Part of the semi's cargo, soybeans, were spilled over both southbound lanes.
The semi drive and the Volvo driver were not inured.
Senior Trooper Kylen Compton, 35, and Trooper Taylor Fox, 25, were both sent to the hospital with minor injuries but were later released.
Pride was cited for failing to yield the right of way to a stationary emergency vehicle.
State Troopers typically patrol solo, but Trooper Fox is new and his working with other officers as part of his training process.
I-69 southbound at SR 57 is still closed as crews clean up the crash site.
