Colorado: Police Arrest Man Who Struck Officer With Car, Led Them On High-Speed Chase
Police in Parker arrested a man who they say struck a police officer and cruiser with his vehicle before leading officers on a high-speed chase.
According to police, Aaron F. Kuss, 27, was arrested on the following charges: assault in the second degree (peace officer), vehicular eluding, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, failed to observe/disregarded traffic control device, passed on the left when prohibited by markings, drove vehicle when license under restraint and criminal mischief.
Police said just before 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 17 officers pulled Kuss over in the parking lot of American Academy Charter School for allegedly running a stop sign.
“During the course of the investigation, the driver of the Mercedes reversed the vehicle, hit a marked patrol unit and a Parker police officer, which caused minor injury,” police said in a statement. “The driver then fled the scene as pursuing units attempted to contact the vehicle.”
Deputies in Douglas County spotted the Mercedes in the area of Meridian Village Parkway and Main Street and began pursuit. During the pursuit stop sticks were deployed and the suspect’s tires were blown out.
“The driver continued to flee from deputies while driving on its rim. Deputies then utilized the precision immobilization technique (PIT) and were able to safely stop the car,” police said.
According to police, Kuss resisted arrest and a Taser was used. He was taken into custody without injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol, Lone Tree Police Department and Aurora Police Department helped assisted in the arrest.
