Colorado: Lone Tree police officer struck twice by cars, suffers minor injuries
A Lone Tree police officer suffered minor injuries Sunday night when his patrol vehicle was rear-ended and he was struck again after getting out of his patrol car, police said Monday. The officer was responding to a report of an accident on the merge lane between westbound C-470 and southbound Interstate 25, said Kristen Knoll, a Lone Tree Police Department spokeswoman.
The officer was sitting in his vehicle filling out the accident report at 6:37 p.m. when his car was rear-ended by oncoming traffic. The officer then stepped out of his vehicle and saw the driver of another vehicle lose control heading toward him and he was struck again, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The officer was taken to the hospital with only minor injuries and was released that night. Knoll said both accidents were weather-related, and that portions of the road near the merge lanes were "extremely icy."
