Rhode Island: Warwick woman charged after police officer struck by car
A local woman is charged with driving into a police officer who was directing traffic outside a busy Dave's Marketplace on Saturday morning.
Tammy Vicino, 36, was arrested Monday, after a tip led officers to her home on Hilton Road, where a gray 2015 Ford Edge was parked in her driveway. Police said the SUV matched the description of the vehicle that struck Sgt. Thomas Snow as he worked a detail directing shoppers at the market on Airport Road.
Police had asked the public for help identifying the driver, writing on the department's Facebook page that she had argued with the sergeant when he told her to stop and then backed up the vehicle and drove toward him. Snow ducked out of the way, escaping with minor injuries, but damaging the SUV's mirror. He was treated at Kent Hospital and released.
Vicino was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and was held at the Police Department late Monday to appear before a justice of the peace.
