Maryland: Howard Co. police fire at man who attempted to ram his vehicle into officers

Howard County police fired at a vehicle after the driver attempted to ram into patrol officers in Ellicott City Friday night, the department said in a statement.

The driver, nor any officers were injured in the incident that occurred at about 10:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of Burgess Mill Way.

Officers were responding to a report of a burglary in progress involving a male threatening to harm himself, police said. At the scene, they found a man sitting inside his vehicle in the parking lot and the officers attempted to get him to get out of the vehicle.

The man did not comply with the officers and instead accelerated, "driving directly at officers resulting in officers firing at the subject's vehicle," the statement said.

Police said he was taken into custody and charges are pending. The department did not release his name Saturday morning.
