Canada: 2 Toronto police cars hit by alleged drunk drivers in North York

Two allegedly impaired drivers rammed their vehicles into police cars in North York overnight, injuring one officer.

The first crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on Finch Avenue West near Rumike Road. Police say a female driver rear-ended the cruiser, knocking the police car into the vehicle in front of it.

The woman fled on foot, but was caught and then arrested for impaired driving. The officer that was in the cruiser at the time suffered minor injuries to his neck and back.

Meanwhile, when more officers arrived to investigate the first crash, a second unrelated male driver hit one of the police cars that was parked on the perimeter of the initial scene. No one was inside the parked cruiser at the time.

The second driver was also arrested and will likely face impaired driving charges.

As of 5:30 a.m. Finch Avenue West was still closed at Rumike Road, but police expect it to re-open soon.
