Washington: Elderly woman killed, trooper injured, during crash near Ferndale, Wash.
A 72-year-old woman was killed during a crash near Ferndale, Wash. on Friday evening.
A Washington State Patrol trooper was on the shoulder of the road investigating another collision, when a car crashed into his parked patrol vehicle.
The woman inside the car that crashed into the trooper’s vehicle—72-year-old Sandra Clifford—died at the scene.
The trooper—Benjamin Ellis—inside of the WSP vehicle struck, was injured and has been taken to St. Joseph’s hospital.
He was briefly trapped and suffered a head injury.
WSP officials said it was possibly hailing at the time of the crash.
