Pennsylvania: Second Sanitation Worker Struck By A Car Since Saturday
For the second time in less than a week, a sanitation worker has been hit by a car in our area.
A Scranton DPW employee was critically injured in a hit-and-run crash on Saturday, and a worker was killed in Williamsport on Wednesday.
The Lycoming County Coroner said 25-year-old Tyler Hamm of South Williamsport was killed as he was working on West Church Street.
Police said the Kriner's Disposal Service employee was out of the garbage truck when an SUV struck and killed him.
The coroner said Hamm was wearing dark clothing at the time of the crash in Williamsport, and this tragedy should remind all sanitation workers the importance of wearing high visibility clothing.
This is the second time in less than a week that a sanitation worker has been hit by a car in our area.
Maxwell Materazzi-Hatala of Old Forge was arrested on Monday. He's accused of hitting a Scranton DPW worker and taking off.
Steven Pierson was critically injured after his legs were crushed between the hit and run vehicle and the garbage truck.
Police said Materazzi-Hatala is also accused of filing a false police report and fraudulent insurance claim. Investigators said he staged a second crash on Sunday with the same vehicle.
No charges have been filed against the driver who struck and killed the sanitation worker in Williamsport.
