Oregon: Woman drags police officer 10-15 feet while trying to flee traffic stop
Springfield Police have arrested a woman after she gave a false name and attempted to flee during a traffic stop Saturday morning, according to the Springfield Police Department. According to Springfield Police, around 1 a.m. Saturday Springfield Police Officer Brian Bragg pulled over 30-year-old Julia Low for a traffic stop on C Street in Springfield.
Police say Low gave Bragg a fake name.
"Officer Bragg was pretty quickly able to determine who it was and the fact that she did have a warrant," said Springfield Police Sgt. Pete Kirkpatrick.
Once Low realized she was about to be arrested she locked her car doors but left the windows open and tried to escape.
"Officer Bragg attempted to basically pull her out of the car and she was able to get to the gas and floored it."
He says she took Officer Bragg with her.
"As he's trying to pull her out of the car because she had locked the doors, obviously trying to prevent being arrested, that's when she took off in the car and dragged him for 10-15 feet."
Officer Bragg managed to escape with no injuries, bouncing off of the car in the process.
That's when Low crashed into a guardrail and fence.
Meanwhile, Frances Fiore was sound asleep in the nearby home.
"I stepped outside and saw the car was busted through my fence and the police were in my yard," said Fiore. "I heard something in the yard. I didn't hear the crash so I opened the door and asked who was there and they said it was the police department."
Low got out of the car and hid in some bushes, but Springfield K9 units found her within an hour.
"It's scary being a single woman here by myself," Fiore added.
Low racked up multiple charges, including Elude by Vehicle and Hit and Run.
"I'm going to move somewhere where there's not a dead-end road in my backyard," Fiore concluded.
Low was lodged at Lane County Jail for her warrant along with additional charges of Elude by Vehicle, Elude on Foot, Reckless Driving, Interfering with a Police Officer, Hit and Run x2, Reckless Endangering, Criminal Trespass II, Disorderly Conduct II, Fail to Carry & Present a Driver License and Possession of Methamphetamine.
Low's past charges include parole violation, criminal trespassing and interfering with a police officer.SPRINGFIELD, Ore. - Springfield Police have arrested a woman after she gave a false name and attempted to flee during a traffic stop Saturday morning, according to the Springfield Police Department.
