Oklahoma: Officer struck by vehicle in scuffle
An Enid man and woman were arrested Friday morning following an altercation with Enid Police Department officers. Daniel D. Burgess, 36, and Trinity D. Woodcock, 31, were arrested on multiple complaints following their encounter with police at 1902 W. Chestnut.
Officer Cassie Gentry was first to respond to the 9:38 a.m. call to police reporting a car parked behind the playground of the address and a person sleeping inside. Gentry found a man and woman, later identified as Burgess and Woodcock, asleep inside a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer.
Neither Burgess or Woodcock would cooperate with Gentry and refused to answer questions or provide identifying information, according to an EPD report. Officer Jeff Roche arrived and could hear Burgess arguing with Gentry.
Roche asked Burgess, who was in the driver's seat, for his identification, but he refused to provide it to Roche, according to the report. Burgess then told Roche he did not have any identification.
Roche told Burgess he was being placed under arrest for obstruction. Burgess acted as if he was going to get out of the Trailblazer but slammed the door and turned on the vehicle's engine, according to the report. Roche went to the passenger side of the vehicle and deployed his Taser, striking Burgess. Roche then leaned into the vehicle to stun Burgess a second time.
During the struggle, the Trailblazer began backing up. Gentry jumped on the vehicle's running board to avoid having her feet run over and was struck on the knee, according to the EPD report. The Trailblazer also struck Gentry's vehicle, causing it to strike Roche's vehicle.
When the vehicle stopped, Burgess attempted to flee on foot but was again Tasered, this time by Officer Shirley Blodgett, who arrived on scene.
Burgess and Woodcock were taken into custody and transported to Garfield County Detention Facility by Officer Brad Pritchett.
