A woman who survived a rollover was killed after she was hit by a car as she went back to her flipped car on a Long Island highway. And as a trooper went to check on the struck woman, another vehicle hit the trooper’s car, police say.
The chaotic scene involving four vehicles in total unfolded after the woman’s car rolled over on the Southern State Parkway at the Straight Path exit in West Babylon sometime early Sunday. The woman survived the initial crash and walked over to the shoulder of the road. But she returned to her car, possibly to grab something, and was hit by a second car, which also struck her flipped-over car, police said.
As a state trooper went to check on the hit woman, his state vehicle was struck by another car from behind, according to police.
The woman who was hit died at the scene, according to police. Her name has not been released. The state trooper was described as “okay” by police.
