New Mexico: County firefighter injured in roadside collision

A Santa Fe County firefighter was seriously injured in a roadside collision Friday afternoon while attempting to reattach a trailer that had become unhitched from his vehicle, but city and county officials say he is expected to survive.

Santa Fe Police Department Deputy Chief John Schaerfl said the firefighter was driving a county SUV and pulling a trailer northbound on Cerrillos Road between Herrera Drive and Jaguar Drive. The road has a slight incline in this area, and along the hill, the trailer became unhitched, the deputy chief said. The firefighter stopped his vehicle, turned on his emergency lights and attempted to reattach the trailer.
