Minnesota: Deputy's vehicle hit in traffic stop
A Stearns County deputy escaped injury Sunday when his squad was hit during a traffic stop.
Deputy Brian Theisen had stopped a vehicle at 10:43 a.m. in the northbound lane of Minnesota Highway 15 in St. Augusta, according to the sheriff's office. He was returning to his squad and was closing his door when a second vehicle hit the edge of his door with its passenger-side mirror.
The driver of the car, Shirley Zipoy, 80, of Kimball, was issued a citation. No injuries were reported.
The sheriff's office cautioned drivers to be aware of vehicles with flashing lights. Drivers are required to slow down and move over a lane, when possible, when approaching a vehicle with flashing lights, whether it's an emergency vehicle, a tow truck or a snow plow.
