Maryland: Suspects in truck hit officer while fleeing scene of stabbing
Police say two suspects fled the scene of a stabbing at a bar early Saturday morning and struck an officer in the parking lot as they drove away. One of the suspects is accused of attacking a bar security guard with knife.
Officers responded to the Firehouse Pub on Ft Smallwood Road around 1:21 a.m. on December 5, for a report of a fight. Callers reported that one of the bar's security guards had been cut. When police arrived on scene some of the bar patrons pointed out a red Dodge pick-up truck attempting to leave the scene. An officer on foot was struck by the truck as he attempted to keep it from leaving.
The suspect vehicle was spotted by an off-duty officer a short time later. Several officers then converged on the vehicle, bringing it to a stop. Police say the passenger, a man, became combative when ordered to exit and the driver, a woman, was seen with a knife in her waistband. According to investigators the woman was tased after she refused to exit the vehicle.
Both suspects were taken into custody.
According to police witnesses and security footage from inside the bar identified the man in the truck as the person who cut the bar security guard. Investigators say the woman was driving the truck and intentionally struck the police officer.
The injured officer was treated and released for minor injuries and the bar security guard was treated for a six inch laceration to his back.
