Maryland: Montgomery Co. officer hit by car to be taken off life support
A Montgomery County police officer who was hit by an alleged drunk driver after a traffic stop will be taken off life support early Thursday morning, according to a statement from the Heroes Memorial Foundation.
Officer Noah Leotta was gravely injured after he was hit on November 3 along Rockville Pike. Since the accident, he has been in critical condition at Suburban Hospital.
After six days in the hospital, Leotta's condition has not improved and the family decided to take him off life-support after consulting with doctors, the statement said.
The driver of the car that hit Leotta, Luis Gustavo Reluzco of Olney, has been charged with DUI. Reluzco stayed on the scene after the accident.
According to the statement, the family is requesting privacy and is asking that no one come to visit Leotta at the hospital. Peer support will be available for officers at the 4th District.
