Florida: Troopers looking for dump truck driver who struck victim, fled scene

Around 8:35 p.m. in Sarasota County, a dump truck driver struck a tow wrecker and fled the scene. The crash occurred on southbound I-75, near mile marker 211.

The tow wrecker, from P&J Towing, was loading a disabled vehicle onto the wrecker. He had his vehicle’s overhead warning lights and rear ground lights on. He was wearing reflective clothing.

The victim was standing on the shoulder against the vehicle – to the right of the lane markings. The dump truck was traveling southbound on I-75 in the right lane. The driver struck the victim, “causing an incapacitating injury,” troopers said.

Troopers say the dump truck driver fled southbound on I-75. The victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital.
