Canada: Tow truck driver escapes serious injury after being hit while hooking up disabled vehicle on QEW in Burlington
A tow truck driver narrowly escaped serious injury after the disabled vehicle he was hooking up on the shoulder of the eastbound QEW, west of Bronte Road, was hit from behind by a car late Sunday night.
The driver, whose name has not been released, was lying on the road hooking up the safety chain to the vehicle at approximately 10:30 p.m. when he was struck, according to OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt.
If he had been standing up he likely would have been killed, because the impact sent the disabled vehicle up over top of the tow truck, said A Action Towing dispatcher Greg Johnston.
Both the tow truck driver and the driver of the vehicle which slammed into the back of the disabled vehicle, were taken to hospital.
The tow truck operator has been released from hospital, said Johnston.
No charges have been laid at this time, said Schmidt.
