Wisconsin: Police officer shoots suspect after being struck by suspect's car

A Milwaukee police officer shot a suspect Saturday after the officer was struck by the suspect's car. The officer, who was taken to a hospital for injuries not believed to be life-threatening, shot the suspect around 3 p.m. on the city's south side, according to a Milwaukee Police Department statement.

The shooting occurred after District 6 officers were sent to a suspicious persons call in the 3900 block of S. Howell Ave. Officers quickly found and arrested two suspects, one of whom is a felon and was armed with a handgun. During the investigation, a Milwaukee police officer was hit by a third suspect's car, at S. 5th Place and W. Norwich St., as he stood next to a marked squad car.

The officer fired at the suspect, who fled in the car and was arrested shortly after near S. 6th St. and W. Howard Ave., the police statement said. That suspect, a 27-year-old Milwaukee man, was taken to a hospital where he was treated for gunshot wounds. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The 45-year-old officer has 12 years of service as a Milwaukee police officer. According to department policy, he was placed on administrative duty, pending the shooting investigation's outcome. The Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation will lead the investigation.
