West Virginia: Two Police Cars Struck near Interstate by Drunk Driver
Two police cruisers suffered damage Thursday night Nov. 5 when struck near Interstate 64 by a 73-year-old driver cited for DUI.
The first cruiser had been taking a prisoner to the Western Regional Jail when a female motorist in front hit a deer near Bennett's Point on Hal Greer Blvd . The accident resulted in the closure of Hal Greer Blvd. to the 16th St. I-64 overpass.
After stopping to assist the woman, the officer called for back up since he had a prisoner in the cruiser. Following the arrival of the second police car, Huntington Police Chief Huntington Joe Ciccarelli explained that a drunken driver clipped the second police vehicle and damaged the first one.
The prisoner complained of injuries and was treated and released at the hospital. Neither officer nor the driver who hit a deer were hurt.
One police vehicle was described by Chief Ciccarelli as a total loss.
