West Virginia: Cabarrus Co. deputy struck by vehicle while helping motorists
A Cabarrus County deputy of 15 years will spend Thanksgiving in the hospital with serious injuries. Deputy Mike Elliot was hit by a car after pulling over to help two elderly women on a West Virginia interstate.
He has broken vertebrae in his neck, broken ribs and multiple staples in his head.
He said that after helping the women he tried to get back to his car and that was when he saw another driver coming right toward him.
“I kind of jumped up a little bit and brought myself into a ball protecting vital areas and they said I got knocked 15 to 20 to 25 feet,” Elliot said.
He doesn't regret stopping to help the elderly women.
He hopes this accident will be a warning to drivers traveling for the holidays to slow down and be cautious.
