Texas: Police officer struck by vehicle in Dallas
A Dallas police officer suffered broken bones and a head injury when he was run over by a suspect early Monday morning. The officer and a partner were working an off-duty security job at Kalua Discotheque around midnight when there was a disturbance, Maj. Max Geron said.
A man involved in the disturbance was escorted out of the nightclub and a valet attendant brought his vehicle to the parking lot, Geron said. The suspect backed up into one officer, and then, Geron said, the suspect drove over a curb and ran over a second officer.
Police shot the suspect. The vehicle continued for about 50 yards, Geron estimated, before it hit at least one parked car and shrubs. The officer who was run over was taken to Parkland Hospital where he is in stable condition. Dallas police said the suspect appears to be in stable condition.
Shortly before 1 a.m., the Dallas Police Association tweeted: "Prayers needed for our officer right now." An hour later, police Chief David Brown added this tweet: "Please keep our officer in your thoughts & prayers."
The second officer was not injured.
