South Carolina: Police officer kills 1 after being hit by car on South Carolina school campus
Authorities say a vehicle hit a college campus police officer, who fired on it and killed a person inside. The campus of Spartanburg Methodist College was placed on lockdown Monday night as authorities investigated the shooting.
South Carolina Law Enforcement Division spokesman Thom Berry told local news outlets that that the officer was investigating a possible vehicle break-in. When the officer arrived, Berry says both suspects ran off, but one was quickly captured.
The other tried to leave in the vehicle and struck the officer, who shot at the vehicle.
The officer wasn't seriously injured. School officials say the lockdown has been lifted and that classes will go on as normal Tuesday.
