Ohio: Hamilton Co. sheriff deputy struck on I-71

A Hamilton County sheriff's deputy was hospitalized after he was struck by vehicle on southbound Interstate 71 just south of Kenwood Road Saturday night, Public Information Officer Mike Robison said.

The deputy is expected to survive, Robison said. He was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center by ambulance.

The extent of his injuries has not been released.

Just before 9:45 p.m., the deputy was assisting with a traffic incident when a wreck on the highway sent a vehicle toward him, striking him.

A medical helicopter went to the scene, but was not needed.

The highway was shut down for more than a hour while the scene was investigated and cleaned up.

Police communications indicate others may have been hospitalized due to the wreck.

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the accident.
